A friend of mine, Jason Warner, a recruiter for Google, has written a terrific post on his blog about the impact that thank you notes can have on recruiters. You can read his post which he called, "The Value of Love Bombs" on his blog, Meritocracy
I would extend Jason's thoughts on thank you notes to almost any occasion in which someone does something for you. I often send thank you notes to my resume clients after they have paid for my services. I have a friend who often stays in my home when she is in town for work and she always brings a bottle of wine with her and sends us a thank you note afterwards. It wouldn't be a big deal if she didn't do those things but it makes her stand out as my favorite houseguest and we keep the guest room ready for her to stop by anytime!
We live in an electronic age and it would be easy to think that thank you cards have gone out of style. But they haven't. Send thank you notes to each interviewer and recruiter when you interview for a job. I think you can see from Alex's post that personalized notes will make you shine in the eyes of a potential employer.

Liz, Thanks for the post referencing my blog. One suggested change, Alex Rudloff actually hosts the blog over at Emurse.com, which I referenced in my post. My name is Jason Warner, and I host the blog at http://www.meritocracy.net. Small point but thought I'd mention it. I really like your blog.
